Rosa Marquez
About Me
Hi, my name is Rosa Marquez, and I’m a fourth-year Journalism student at San Diego State University, with an emphasis in Media Studies. I’ve always been drawn to photography and being able to capture a story within a single frame. Over time, photography has become an important part of my identity and a way for me to make sense of the world.
I love traveling, and taking photos on my trips has helped me grow both creatively and personally. It’s given me the chance to build a portfolio that reflects who I am and how I see the world. My goal is to work as a photojournalist, combining my love of photography with my passion for storytelling. As American photographer Dorothea Lange once said, “The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera.”
Most of my technical skills have come from my classes at SDSU, especially my experience with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Pro. I enjoy using these tools to experiment, edit, and bring out the details that make each photo meaningful. I’ve always loved the arts, whether it’s visual art, film, or anything that sparks creativity.
Outside of school, I work as a shift manager at McDonald’s, where I’ve learned a lot about responsibility, communication, and working with people. Managing sales and helping lead a team has taught me how to stay organized, stay patient, and create a positive work environment—skills I try to carry into everything else I do.
Overall, I am someone who enjoys learning, creating, and finding new ways to tell stories through images. I’m excited to keep growing and exploring where photography and journalism can take me.
